Why and how to use the criteria?

Trellis have decreased significantly in Finland, and the new animal Welfare Act prohibits the construction of new trellis. The criterion is currently only applicable to milk procurement (not milk products), as milk can be distinguished from which farm (yard or Parsinavetta) it comes from. Nor is this criterion suitable for the purchase of lactose-free milk. On average, rearing as a free-time animal offers better preconditions for animal welfare than rearing as a tethered animal. The possibility for animals to move is an important animal welfare issue. It is easier to meet behavioural needs in a yard than in a grove. In the yard, a cow can move freely, choose his or her place of sleep, go to eat and drink if he or she so wishes, socialize with other animals and care for his or her fur. Cows have fewer water injuries and it is easier to monitor their horny behaviour.
