The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector accounts for approximately 4–10 percent of global electricity consumption. ICT emissions are one of the fastest-growing individual sources of carbon dioxide emissions. The continuous growth of digitalization brings solutions to reduce emissions in other sectors, but the increasing number of software and devices is driving up the ICT sector's own energy consumption and, as a result, its emissions.
